Irreverent Radio for March 24, 2010
Sorry it took us so long to get the notes up; it’s been busy over here at the worldwide broadcast headquarters of Irreverent Radio. Here’s what you missed for the March 24th show:
- 14 states (and count) are now suing the federal government over recent attempts at healthcare reform. (For those playing the home game, they’re suing because the new legislation is, among other things, highly unconstitutional).
- What do Puck from “The Real World”, Suge Knight, and the Learjet corporation have in common? LEGAL PROBLEMS. (OK, so the Learjet one is a bit unusual, but is anybody shocked about the other two? Didn’t think so.)
- Parents in Fulton County, GA are fighting the school board’s decision to remove the music program from the schools. As if kids really needed any more reasons to hate school — you’re going to take away one of the few things that makes it enjoyable for them? Sheesh.
- More HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup) news: researchers at Princeton have discovered that HFCS has a direct link to obesity and causes more than twice the weight gain than half the amount of sugar. And people say bad things about diet soda?!
Then, of course, we tackled our main topic for the week: sexual repression in American society. We did some research during the show and discovered that in countries known for their sexual freedom (Netherlands and Japan were two notable examples) the number of sex-related crimes was much lower per capita than in the United States. We’re convinced that the apparent fear of all-that-is-sex in this country has resulted in people acting out and committing rape and pedophilia rather than feeling okay with exploring their sexuality like a normal human being. We also discussed nudist colonies and the impact they have on children growing up in them.
Finally: Our very own Rick D is doing a fundraiser for diabetes research called “Ride to Live”, and friend of the show Liz A is doing a fundraiser for breast cancer research (Susan G. Komen’s “Race for the Cure”). These are both important causes that we support here at Irreverent Radio, and if you have a few dollars to spare for one or both of these causes, we would appreciate it! (Besides, everyone loves a good tax write-off, right?)
